Moorlands Walks with Children
Welcome to Moorlands Walks with Children, we are a group that started in 1999 through The Amethyst Project. Our walks are for anyone who wishes to join in a social activity in which children are involved. They are organised by volunteers and led by trained walk leaders or rangers.

You will need to bring a waterproof jacket and
wear sturdy footwear for all walks, even on a
nice day.

A backpack and a change of clothes would be very useful. On very hot days you might need to bring a hat and sun cream. We have a small number of leggings, shower-proof jackets and backpacks that can be borrowed for the walk.

A packed lunch will be provided free for every person booked in advance on the walk and will consist of: 1 sandwich (2 slices of bread - choose white or brown, selection of fillings), 1 bottle of water, a piece of fruit, a bag of crisps. Please bring extra supplies if you feel that this will not be sufficient.

The distance for the walks is usually less than 5 miles.

Children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by adults.
All children are the responsibility of their parent or guardian.
Although we try to provide everything for free on the walks, any donations would be very gratefully received.
Although all our walks are led by experienced walk leaders, we ask that anyone taking part should at all times consider the safety both of themselves and of others involved in the walk.

If you want to motivate yourself or your children to get more fresh air and exercise, the walks are ideal. The routes are planned, and the walks are led either by a ranger or a trained walk leader. There is good company, information about the countryside, a packed lunch and refreshments, and all designed to suit a group of different ages, from youngsters to grandparents.

For more information about the walks you can contact Melanie Hodgkinson 01538 304504 or the Amethyst office 01433 621822.

The walking season is well underway, and the varied programme has seen groups out every month for a walk. The experience of the walk leaders is growing, luckily because so are the numbers of walkers! But even with a 'pack' of more than twenty, it is still a relaxed and friendly outing.

The Annual General Meeting held in June was attended mainly by committee members [otherwise known as the walk leaders and organisers!]. It resulted in a change round of committee roles. There are adequate funds to support this year's walks and some fundraising activities are also planned, to make sure of a sound start for 2006.

The committee is now set up, and committee members are involved in all aspects including assisting with leading walks, while Melanie continues to be main information point. The regular input from the ranger service on route planning and leading walks has continued. There have been fund raising events, monthly walks, an Easter bunny hunt to entice younger walkers, and a programme which includes some push-chair friendly walks and some on rougher terrain.
