TRAINING

ASSERTIVENESS & COMMUNICATION SKILLS,
TIME MANAGEMENT,
CONFIDENCE BUILDING & FINDING YOUR DIRECTION

Amethyst has worked with the Women's Enterprise Project [Janet Brightmore and Sue Scholes] and High Peak Council for Voluntary Service to run courses on the above topics in village venues. All of them were led by Jen Bower. A total of 33 women attended, and the three daytime courses had creches for pre-school children. Here are some of the comments from those who attended:

I usually find that however interesting I fall asleep after lunch and you kept me with you all day.
A really good session - learnt new skills
The entire course was invaluable and I already notice a positive change
Gave me confidence. Brilliant - hope there's a follow-on.
Great to have a chance to bounce things off other people in similar circumstances.
Made me realise what I am doing is great!
Tutor was very good at working at our level of thinking.
The childcare was excellent.

We plan to set up two short courses in November, led by Jen Bower, one in Bakewell in the evening and one in Waterhouses in the daytime, jointly organised with the Women's Enterprise Project co-ordinators [Sue Scholes and Janet Brightmore]. The topic for both will be communication skills and assertiveness for women, and they will both run for 4 weeks at two hours per week. - check events page

FARM SECRETARY TRAINING

Derbyshire: The Rural Business Administration course has run in Bakewell and Tissington, and is on-going. The course is useful for anyone doing paperwork for a rural business or who might want to work for other businesses, only part of it is specifically on farm paperwork. For information about this contact Jenny Joy-Matthews on 01629 56573.

Staffordshire: Following the farm secretary focus days run by Amethyst and the Women's Enterprise Project in Ipstones and Swythamley, and the Paperwork for Farmers courses run at the UKOnline centres in Warslow and Waterhouses, there are women who would like to take up further study. We are hopeful that the College of the Peak will be running the Rural Business Administration course from September in Waterhouses. Contact Louise Nadin on 01629 815749 for information.

Institute of Agricultural Secretaries and Administrators: With expert input from farm secretary Sally Wood, Amethyst is helping to run a local branch of IAgSA, in response to requests from graduates of the course. It meets every two months, with a different topic each time, and is open to non-members. For any forthcoming meetings see events page.
